RAHIM ISLAM'S BLOG -- PROVIDING HELP IN TOUGH TIMES
It is no news flash that we are living in tough economic times.
For people who were struggling to get by before the economy tanked, things now may seem hopeless.
The purpose of the Promise Neighborhood is to restore that hope. Each of our schools will have a Family and Student Resource Center to lend a helping hand to any member of our community, whether they have a child in the school or not.
Even before our “official” grand opening, our Universal Audenried FSRC has hosted workshops for adults to earn their GED’s, learn basic computer skills and write resumes that will help get them jobs. All of these services are free to members of the Promise Neighborhood.
Even in difficult times, there are jobs available for people with the right skills. And we will do our best to help you get those skills.
In a few weeks, the FSRC’s at Vare and Audenried will celebrate grand openings that will give everyone a chance to see what we have to offer and to meet our staff. In addition to career programs, we will also provide counseling and social services. People also need more of that in a recession like this one.
This is all part of building community – looking after one another in both happy times and sad. Giving our neighbors the tools to find a better job. Offering a shoulder to lean on and solid advice and information to resolve a problem.
Hope to see you at the Grand Openings. Watch our website or Facebook page to learn the dates and times.
And let me know what the FSRC can provide to help you and your family.
